Working together
With its wealth of architecture it's not surprising that our city has a large number of groups fighting to protect our amenities and our environment--as well as conserving our architectural heritage. We work closely with many of these groups on the council's Conservation Advisory Group. So why not visit the websites of some of our friends and see what they're up to?
The Brighton Society
The Brighton Society promotes the conservation of buildings and amenities throughout the city of Brighton and Hove. We cooperated closely with The Brighton Society during the campaign to save the Royal Alex. Click here for more information about the the Brighton Society
The Regency Society
The Regency Society was formed in 1945 to fight the demolition of the terraces and squares along the seafront. We are supporting the Regency Society's initiative to promote better cooperation between the conservation and amenity groups in the city. Click here to visit the Regency Society
The Hove Civic Society
The Hove Civic Society was formed in 1961 to stimulate public interest in the town. It is currently working on initiatives to green our environment and to improve access to the sea. For more details about the society's work click here
The Kemp Town Society
The Kemp Town Society was formed in 1988 to preserve the Kemp Town Estate on the eastern cliff of Brighton. The society bore the brunt of fighting the marina development. There's more information about the society here.
North Laine Community Association

The Kingscliffe Society
The Kingscliffe Society promote conservation in the East Cliff Conservation Area, running along the seafront from the Old Steine to the edge of Sussex Square. For more information click here
The Round Hill Society
The society aims to protect the Roundhill Conservation Area, which lies south of the railway line to Lewes between the the Upper Lewes Road and Ditchling road. Click here to visit the society's lively website.
Regency Square Area Society
You only have to cross Western Road to visit the neighbouring conservation area of Regency Square. Visit the society's website to learn more about the area and to watch the live webcam of the peregrine falcon nest on top of Sussex Heights. Click on the link Regency Square Area Society
Preston and Old Patcham Society
The Preston and Old Patcham Society was founded in 1973 to protect Patcham, Preston Village and the Preston Park conservation areas. The society is currently fighting to prevent Varndean College from being demolished. Click here to visit the society's website.
The Stanmer Preservation Society
With more than 5000 acres of park and woodland Stanmer Park is one of the lungs of Brighton. The society was founded in 1971 to help protect and preserve the largely unspoilt village of Stanmer, together with its Church and the rural museum, behind Stanmer House. The East Brunswick Residents' Association

Clifton Montpelier Powis Community Alliance
The alliance was founded in 2005 to foster a sense of community and help residents come together to discuss and take action on issues of concern in the conservation area. You can find out more about the alliance here

The Georgian Group
Have you developed a taste for Georgian elegance? It's not surprising if you live in our beautiful area. The Georgian Group is a national body, fighting to preserve the magnificant architecture that we have inherited from Georgian times. You can find out more about the group here
The Victorian Society
The Victorian Society has been a stalwart supporter of our campaign to save the Royal Alex. The society aims to protect the Victorian buildings that we all grew up with and find so familiar. The society's remit also includes buildings from Edwardian times (for those modernists among you). Find out more about the society here
St. Nicholas Green Spaces Association
The association was set up in 2007 to protect and enhance the three open spaces around St Nicholas’s church. You can find out more about the association here
The Friends of St Michael’s
The friends were set up to help protect the fabric of this grade 1-listed church, known as the Cathedral of the Back Streets. You can find out more about the friends here
